How to Fix Paper Jams in Your Epson Printer

Understanding the Problem

Paper jams are another common problem many Epson printer users face. Fortunately, resolving them is generally easy as long as you properly follow the steps below.

First, turn off the printer and unplug it from the wall. This is for your own safety and to prevent any other damage to the printer. After the printer is turned off, slowly remove the paper tray and check for any paper stuck. Occasionally, short scraps will stay inside the printer as well, so check both the rollers and feed path carefully. Note, when removing the paper, avoid tearing it because any leftover pieces can cause even more consistent jams.

If the jam is actually in the interior of the printer, then open all access doors to the printer and, very carefully, pull the paper jam from the printer toward you in the direction of the paper path. Generally, Epson printers pull out quite easily (considering the paper isn't torn), so do not try to force it out. Once you pull the jammed paper out, check the rollers for any dust or debris, and wipe them down with a soft lint-free cloth.

After removing the jammed paper, replace the paper tray back into the printer, this time ensuring the paper tray has the correct size paper and it is aligned properly. Ensuring that the paper is the Epson recommended size and type will also reduce the potential of having a paper jam. Now you should be ready to turn the printer back on, and run a test print to ensure everything works properly.

Regularly inspecting and maintaining your printer, such as cleaning, would also help prevent any paper jams here.
